Outings Overview

The NM Cross Country Ski Club sponsors many different kinds of outings.

  • Local day trips
  • Overnight Chartered Bus & Hotel Trips to Colorado
  • Back-country Hut Trips (Colorado)
  • Overnight Carpooling Trips (typically Chama, NM, Red River, NM, Pagosa Springs & Silverton, Colorado)
  • Cross-country, Nordic, Back-country, Alpine Touring, Telemark Skiing

Some trips have both downhill ski resorts and cross-country skiing nearby. Other trips are to remote, back-country areas.  Outings are for a range of abilities, as described in the document Ski Tour Ratings

Leader & Participant Responsibilities

All participants in tours must sign the Release of Liability Form. To help leaders and participants, we have two documents: Guidelines for Leaders and Guidelines for Participants. Before you go out on any trips you should familiarize yourself with these documents.

You should also familiarize yourself with equipment, weather, and safety conditions. These are discussed in the Resources area of this website.

Some things about XC Skiing you might find interesting

The Washington Post published an article by Des Bieler about cross-country skiing describing some of the things that make it a really cool activity. Titled Cross-country skiing is a lot cooler than you think, it talks about some of the connections that cross skiers have with their outdoor environment.

Here is a hut trip report by Guy Miller on a 2003 trip to Francie’s Hut: FranciesHut20030106.

This will give you a little of the flavor of hut trips.
